GEO India 2008 ended on an upbeat note on 17 September 2008 having attracted over 1,500 senior oil and gas industry professionals from across the world.

The largest geoscience exhibition ever seen in Asia attracted the participation of 61 exhibiting companies from 10 countries. Spanning 3,600 square metres of space, GEO India 2008 featured showcase stands from the Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and the government’s Directorate General of Hydrocarbons; and companies already firmly established in the region such as Fugro, Cairn, Schlumberger, Halliburton, Wavefield and CGGveritas; while also creating a platform for new entries to the Indian market.

Under the chairmanship of R.S. Sharma, Chairman and Managing Director of ONGC, the high level technical conference featured over 100 technical oral presentations and in excess of 120 poster presentations. In addition there was an extensive pre-event short course programme.

The conference covered a diverse range of topics including reservoir characterisation and development, well testing, basin analysis, paleominerology, sedimentological processes, stratigraphic models, deep water slopes and basin systems.

The official conference and exhibition opening ceremonies were performed by Murli Deora, India’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Dinsha Patel, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas on 17 September 2008.
