The 2nd South Asian Geosciences Conference & Exhibition

India Expo Centre and Mart (formerly Expo XXI)
Greater Noida, New Delhi

12 – 14 January 2011

About the Exhibition

The GEO India exhibition is the largest showcase of geoscience products and services in India, attracting NOCs, IOCs and major operating companies. Previous high profile exhibitors include the Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and the government’s Directorate General of Hydrocarbons; Fugro, Cairn, Schlumberger, Halliburton, Wavefield and CGGveritas; and numerous new entries to the Indian market.

Visitor delegations from many of these companies attend the highly regarded conference and come to evaluate the technology on display. The national oil companies’ active support also involves showcase stands at the show and participation on the conference committee, ensuring that the programme maintains its excellent technical focus with special relevance to the current energy climate in the Indian Subcontinent.

An increasing number of E&P projects are either underway or planned to increase domestic oil and gas production in India. The government is striving to reduce the country’s dependency on foreign imports, which currently account for 70% of its energy needs. In recent years, the auction of exploration blocks under the New Exploration Licensing Programme (NELP) has sped up the country’s hunt for domestic sources, and the government has adopted a more liberal oil regulatory regime that allows much greater involvement of private sector operators and foreign investors. At present two thirds of India’s sedimentary basins remain unexplored.

In order to achieve the government’s goals and uncover the country’s full hydrocarbon potential, India currently faces a large number of technical and business challenges – and an equally extensive set of opportunities.
